Why Mat sessions first?
If you are completely new to Reformer Pilates, and you’re thinking that the Reformer and Tower look a little intimidating, you’re not the first person to think that.
Rest easy, Mat Pilates only requires a mat, and sometimes some props like a band, ball, roller or ring.
Pilates was actually the first form of Pilates that existed, and it sets you up with many of the foundational tools that you’ll use on the Reformer and the Tower.
Mat pilates benefits
Mat Pilates helps you to lengthen and strengthen all the muscles in your body, while putting a strong emphasis on deepening your deepest abdominal muscles ( your core / powerhouse ).
The practice of Mat Pilates helps you to feel strong and confident. It improves balance, strength and posture. It’s perfect for all ages ( 10-90 ) and all levels.
As with all Pilates work, breathing is an essential principle. With a special emphasis on breathing during all your exercises, you’ll feel relieved of stress and tension in your body.
Breathing techniques can teach you how to concentrate and really stay focussed in the moment. This makes Pilates like a moving meditation.
